A sad day...

The retail arm of Dance Books is closing down after 40 years plus of dedicated and wonderful service to the world of dance.

As a result a lot of back stock needs to be cleared and over the next few weeks they’ll be reducing many items to half price or less. You’ll find these clearly marked on their web site catalogue, or you can find the whole lot at:

SCONUL Access

Think of all the contemporary dance resources hidden away in UK university library collections... wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to access these resources? If you could take a peek where would you go first? :

De Montfort University

University of Kent

Roehampton University

University of Surrey

Well... if you are a student or staff member at a Higher Education Institute (HEI) or university then you can, via a scheme run by SCONUL (Society of College, National & University Libraries).

The SCOUNL Access scheme allows students and staff from member institutions to access and in some cases borrow material from library collections in other institutions.

If you are a member of academic staff, a post-graduate research student, a part-time/distance/placement student or a full-time postgraduate student you can take advantage of the scheme to borrow from other institutional libraries.

If you are a full-time undergraduate student you can use the scheme to access the library collections of another institution on a reference basis.

How to utilise/join the scheme:

  1. Check the SCONUL Access website to ensure your library is a member of the scheme or ask your Librarian
  2. Make sure you are registered with your home HEI/university library and hold a current library card
  3. Check the SCONUL Access website to ensure the library/s you wish to visit are members of the SCONUL Access scheme and will allow you access
  4. Submit a completed SCONUL Access application form to your home library
  5. Your home library will provide you with a SCONUL Access card, which should be presented with your home library card/student ID when requesting access to library services at other institutions (remember to check the websites of any library you intend to visit for details of opening hours & for instructions to visitors)

Why not check the online library catalogue of any institution you intend to visit in advance, this will allow you to identify useful resources and plan your visit, providing you with more time when you are there. More information and advice on using other libraries can be found on the SCONUL Access website.

It should be noted that this scheme does not allow for access to computer facilities (including electronic resources) which may be held by member libraries.

If your institution is not a member of the SCONUL Access scheme you may be interested in the SCONUL Vacation access scheme for undergraduates and taught postgraduates.
